Our Team

The GRID consists of an experienced team that provides in-depth research and applies issue- and context-specific best practices in evaluating potential grantees. The GRID will work alongside donors to define funding goals and develop solutions as needed to funding challenges.

Frederick Barasa
Executive Director

Barasa founded The Grid in January 2016. He has more than 16 years of experience in the field, as well as a research background. Barasa served as senior research analyst for Global Scripture Impact (the research arm of American Bible Society), as well as program manager for Geneva Global. He also worked for Handicap Initiative Supporting and Networking (HISAN) in Kenya and Somalia. Prior to that, he worked with orphans in Kenya  as a social worker. Barasa holds a Master’s degree in social work and a Bachelor’s degree in sociology, economics and political science from Dr. Babaseheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Maharashtra, India. In his current position, he serves as the primary contact with clients, oversees project delivery, reviews initial proposals from clients, revises and refines due diligence, develops funding agreements and prepares grantee reporting templates. While at Global Scripture Impact, Barasa oversaw research on projects in India and East, Central Africa, Southern and West Africa. He speaks English, Swahili, Luhya and Hindi.

Nicole Johnsey Burke
Senior Consultant

Nicole came to The GRID with 15 years of experience in international development. With a degree in accounting and mathematics from Converse College in South Carolina, Nicole spent several years in rural development among minority groups in East Asia. At Geneva Global, Nicole served as the Southeast Asia Team Leader and the Director of Consultancy. In 2007, she developed the model to launch Global Scripture Impact and then served as a consultant and strategic research associate for eight years. Her duties involve conducting due diligence on the selected grantees, preparing funding agreements and posting completed reports onto the ARDF database.

Barb Delp
Managing Editor

Barb came to The GRID after more than 20 years in daily newspapers, including ones owned by The New York Times and Gannett Co. Inc. Following her time in newspapers, she spent the next decade editing philanthropic reports, also for Geneva Global and American Bible Society. She has a degree in communication from Florida Southern College.
